Jonathon Schwake, MD

Dr. Schwake joined the Digestive and Liver team at UP Health System - Marquette in 2019. Raised in rural Iowa, he has always appreciated the benefits of living in smaller communities and hoped to one day practice in a place like the Upper Peninsula. "I know from my own family's experience the challenge of finding specialty care in smaller communities, and I'm glad to be able to offer gastroenterology care to our community without traveling hundreds of miles." Dr. Schwake attended medical school at the University of Iowa, Carver College of Medicine before completing his residency (internal medicine) and fellowship (gastroenterology) at the San Antonio Military Medical Center. "Medicine is often a confusing and stressful area of life for most people. My goal is to make my patients feel at ease so I can grasp their concerns and present care solutions in a way that makes them feel validated and empowered to participate in their care." Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his son, being outdoors, exploring and all sports - especially the Minnesota Vikings.
